The Chow Chow ranks No. 10 on our list of the priciest dog breeds, with prices ranging from $3,000 to $9,000. It comes from China, where it is known as Songshi Quan, which translates to “puffy-lion dog.” The Chow Chow is an ancient breed that is considered to have originated around 300 B.C. It was used as a hunting, birding, and security dog. It is a medium-sized dog that stands out thanks to its blue-black tongue and lion-like coat. It also has a huge head and round muzzle. Chow Chows are a genuinely distinctive breed, loyal to their owners and appreciated by dog enthusiasts for their regal appearance.
The Songshi Quan, or “puffy-lion dog,” as it is known in northern China, where the Chow Chow originated, is a breed of dog. The dog of the Tang Empire, or Tang Quan, is another name for the breed. The Foo dog, the customary stone guardians found in front of Buddhist temples and palaces, is thought to have been inspired by one of the native dogs, and it’s thought that the Chow Chow was one of them. One of the few historic dog breeds that are still in use today. According to one author, the Chow Chow either had its beginnings in China 2,000 years ago or in Arctic Asia 3,000 years ago, before migrating to Mongolia, Siberia, and finally China.
